What’s different about yacht insurance

Yacht insurance has its origins in the wider marine insurance market covering cargo and marine craft large and small. So whilst yacht insurance provides similar protection for you and your yacht as your car or home insurance does, yacht insurance works in a different way.

The underwriter needs to know about you and how you plan to use the yacht and where you plan to take it.

In the event of a claim, you will find that underwriters will refund agreed costs, and sometimes will pay a boatyard direct for repairs, but they do not maintain a network of facilities to carry out recovery and repair work. It is up to you to find the appropriate experts to do that.
